Holistic Approach to influence change….

The Kafakumba Training Center and its related self sustaining businesses represent a unique, and indigenous approach seeking an effective way to lift up and bring hope to suffering masses.  This approach is born out of 50 years of evangelism, church planting, and economic development efforts.  What has emerged is a consensus arrived by committed Christian people seeking to bring God’s holistic salvation to central Africa.  Our approach has (3) essential elements.  Faith, Education, and Economic Development.  Without any one of these elements, the circumstances which the Africans live and suffer will not change.

Here we Grow again!

The Center has received a generous donation to expand the facility in some much needed, and important ways.  The Center is the hub of our Education and Faith based initiatives.  Our self sustaining initiatives are moving forward but the need for additional Capital to build and improve infrastructure is always needed.  We are deeply grateful for this donation.  Projects include:

1.)    Completion of Guest House #4: This will be used to accommodate teachers and pastors who lead the conferences.

2.)    Dormitory #5: This 5,000 sq. foot dormitory has been designed with children and youth in mind.  With the addition of the dormitory, the capacity of the Center will be approximately 500 guests!  This dormitory will be used year round and specifically during youth conferences.

3.)    Landscaping, Irrigation and Finishing: The Center is functional, but needs finishing touches to bring it to a level that all attendees deserve.  This includes “green” touches, painting, trees and shrubbery.  This will be ongoing for years but we will accelerate our efforts.

We look forward to these improvements, and others planned for the future.

1st Annual Women’s Empowerment Seminar

Kafakumba served as host to the 1st Annual Women’s Empowerment Seminar in early July 2009.  This one week gathering of approximately 100 women from nearby villages focused on vital topics addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual well being of the women.  Mary Kay Smith from the U.S. was the primary educator and was assisted by a number of the local women who work closely with Kafakumba.  Mary Kay said that the women understood and embraced the concepts that were presented and wanted more time to discuss additional topics.

Issues discussed were wide ranging including HIV and Marriage enrichment.  The seminar utilized small groups and included on the last day, the women’s husbands. This was done to further empower the women with their husbands.  The seminar gave the women an introduction to a life style that does not include several of the destructive practices that are part of the local culture.  It is just a start to the type of Programing Kafakumba is committed to creating and facilitating.  This will include a full time faculty who work with Women, Youth, Business Managers, and Pastors teaching villagers to lift themselves out of the abject poverty and destructive lifestyles that plagues Africa.
